Complex System 178 & 179, 2015

Cuttlebone | 113 x 94 x 5cm each part

Cuttlebone fragments are processed into uniform components that reflect the natural geometry of the source material. Individually shaped yet collectively ordered, they are assembled into two opposing surfaces that echo one another – each a reflection and counterpoint to the other. The work sits somewhere between natural system and constructed object, exploring how materials respond to structure and intention, as complex patterns emerge through repeated, deliberate actions.
